Half Day Tour
After the guide’s instructions and equipment review, we begin the tour at 3:00 p.m. in Plaza de Armas.
Puerto Natales is located on the banks of the Señoret Canal, between the Almirante Montt Gulf and the Ultima Esperanza Sound. It is the capital of the Natales commune and the Ultima Esperanza province, baptized with that name by the navigator Juan Ladrillero in search of a route to the Strait of Magellan.
Three centuries passed since the discovery of Ladrillero before he again ventured into the Ultima Esperanza area. Around 1830, the expedition of the frigate HMS Beagle, explored the entire sector covered by Ladrillero. The names of some members of that expedition are now familiar in the area: Robert Fitz Roy, William Skyring, James Kirke and the naturalist Charles Darwin. Around 1870, interest in the lands of Ultima Esperanza was reborn. Among the daring travelers who ventured through these desolate territories, Santiago Zamora stands out, who went down in history as the baqueano Zamora and to whom the discovery of the Paine lake region and large herds of wild or bagual horses is owed.
During the excursion we will visit various monuments, streets and avenues of the city. We will visit the waterfront, the main viewpoints, pioneer houses, the Ether Aike artisanal village, the square of the four towns, Braun Blanchard Pier, the mural of native peoples and the Plaza de Armas Arturo Prat. The tour concludes in the city center.
