Carretera Austral

(From North to South)

The Carretera Austral is located in southern Chile and connects Puerto Montt with Villa O’Higgins. Along its approximately 1,300 kilometers, tourists can enjoy cinematographic natural landscapes and perform endless activities, such as trekking, rafting, horseback riding, fishing, sailing, national park routes, guided visits to local communities, glacier observation Patagonian glaciers, tasting of typical foods and much more.

North sector
Pumalín Park
It was declared a Nature Sanctuary. It is an excellent destination for trekking, camping and canyoning through its fjords.
Futaleufu
The Futaleufú River is one of the three best in the world for canoeing and rafting, which makes this destination one of the favorites for adventure sports. In the Futaleufú National Reserve it is possible to go cycling, hiking and observing animals such as Huemúl.
Puyuhuapi
With its forests and rivers, it is ideal for hiking, sailing and relaxing in its hot springs.
Queulat National Park
One of the unmissable activities on the Carretera Austral is trekking to the Suspended Glacier, a tongue of ice that falls into the void and impresses with its grandeur. In the park, it is possible to go trekking to appreciate its evergreen forest, visit its glaciers, lagoons and incredible waterfalls.

Southern sector
Coyhaique and its surroundings
Coyhaique National Reserve or River Simpson National Reserve. It is possible to enjoy the city and its gastronomy. Also within reach is the Condor sighting tour at 5 am, a few hours from the city.
Cerro Castillo National Park
The tips are the trekking to the Laguna Verde sector, or the realization of a trekking program of several days through the Park.
General Carrera Lake and the Marble Chapels
The Marble Chapels are a group of caves on Lake General Carrera, which stand out for their beauty in contrast to the turquoise blue of the lake. You can visit them by kayak and take the most beautiful photos.
Glacier Explorers
Chile is a country of glaciers and the ‘Explorers’ is one of the most impressive that can be visited. It is possible to walk to the glacier itself and over the ice, in addition to observing the magnitude of the huge piece of frozen water.
San Rafael Lagoon
A spectacle just to stand in front of the ice wall of the homonymous glacier
Tour lasting approximately 12 hours with departures from Tranquilo or Chacabulco Port).
Baker River
Excellent place to practice rafting on its high-level rapids. The color of its waters and the exuberant forest that surrounds it make this one of the most beautiful places in the Carretera Austral.
Patagonia National Park
The Park has more than 304,000 hectares. Most of the territory that currently makes up the Patagonia National Park integrates the surface of the former Lago Jeinimeni National Reserve and the former Lago Cochrane National Reserve (Tamango). This includes the Valle Chacabuco sector, an area donated to the Chilean government by the Tompkins Conservation Foundation as part of the Patagonia Park Network initiative.
Caleta Tortel
Caleta Tortel is known as the place for the catwalks. Village connected by bridges, platforms and stairs built in cypress wood and, therefore, declared a Typical Area.
Villa O’Higgins
There, you can see the spectacular O’Higgins Glacier.

Chile/Argentina border crossing
Places: Futaleufu, Jeinimeni in Chile Chico; Roballos in the Cochrane sector or Patagonia National Park and Coyhaique Alto.

Peulo, Hornopirén, Yelcho, Futaleufú, Raul Marín Balmaceda, La Junta, Coyhaique, Puerto Aysén, Lake General Carrera, Puerto Bertrand, Cochrane and Tortel.
